No. Many traditional semi-moist foods stay soft with added sugars, syrups or propylene glycol — LEVENDO uses none of those. Its tender, moist texture comes from plant-based glycerine (from rapeseed) together with gentle baking. Glycerine is a recognised plant-based feed ingredient — not an additive — that simply helps hold moisture, so every piece stays soft and aromatic.

Gradually, over about 7–10 days: mix a little LEVENDO into the current food and increase it each day. A slow change lets your dog’s digestion adjust comfortably.

LEVENDO is built on novel fermented proteins dogs have virtually no prior exposure to, and it contains none of the ingredients most often behind food reactions — no beef, dairy, chicken, lamb, egg, wheat, soy or corn. That makes a reaction far less likely than with a typical meat-based food. No food can promise zero reaction, so a dog with a diagnosed allergy on a vet-prescribed single-protein diet is a specialist job — talk to us and we’ll point you to the right food in our range. Spermidine is a naturally occurring compound — a polyamine — found in many everyday whole foods, from wheat germ and mushrooms to aged cheese, legumes and fermented foods. It's one of the compounds that comes along naturally when you grow protein through fermentation, and our blend contains it as part of the whole.

It's an area scientists find genuinely interesting. Much of the research so far has been in cells, in laboratory models and in humans, where spermidine is being studied for its role in autophagy — the body's natural process of "cellular housekeeping," in which cells clear out and recycle their own worn-out components. Researchers are exploring how compounds like spermidine relate to this process, and interest in the topic has grown across nutrition science in recent years.

To be completely clear: this is an emerging field, most of the work is early and outside of dogs, and we make no health claims about spermidine in LEVENDO whatsoever. We simply think it's a fascinating example of the natural richness that comes with growing our proteins rather than adding everything on top — and we like to be open with owners who enjoy knowing exactly what's in the bowl.
